The First Two Weeks of Working with the Unitree G1 Humanoid RobotIt's been two weeks since the @UnitreeRobotics G1 #humanoid# robot arrived at the Robonomics lab in California. A team of at least five engineers with master's degrees in robotics immediately set to work studying and programming the new robot! We want to share the first news from the field: impressions, findings and challenges on the way to, as we hope, a humanoid revolution!TL;DR* Successfully connected to dev unit on board the humanoid.* Set up a remote connection via SSH through ZeroTier and yggdrasil-network.* Studied the Linux-based system on board the humanoid, performed standard DevOps tasks.* Got acquainted with the Python SDK library from the humanoid developers (we even fixed a critical bug): now we can control the robot from scripts: walk, sit, stand up and damp.* Built @OpenRoboticsOrg ROS 2 packages, connected to topics, launched several examples, but additional testing is required.

A video released last week by the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily features a humanoid robot developed in China, demonstrating a human-like gait and speed as it strolls through a plaza in Shenzhen. Passersby are seen capturing the moment with their mobile phones, visibly impressed by the robot's movements.
We are seeing a rapid shift in the development tooling and more specifically with developer environments used to create software applications. A radical shift from earlier "co-pilots" like Cursor, Co-Pilot and Windsurf to new bread of agentic IDE's like @zencoderai which recently got product of the day at Producthunt. 🧵

Sumo is thought to have developed from contests of strength and there have been other similar games since ancient times, such as wrestling, that have originated all over the world. The beginning of sumo dates back to mythological times. Oldest mention appears to be the myth of Kuniyuzuri (ceding of land) in Kojiki (Records of Ancient Matters), in which there was contest of strength between gods Takemikazuchi no Kami and Takeminakata no Kami. In addition to this, Ame no Tajikarao no Mikoto, who was proud of his superhuman strength and who opened up Ama no Iwato (cave of heaven), seen as god of sumo.According to Nihonshoki (Chronicles of Japan), contest of strength between Nomi no Sukune and Taima no Kehaya in article for 26 BC is said to be origin of Sumo. Nomi no Sukune, who won, has also been worshiped as a god of sumo. Throughout Japan, 26 shrines are dedicated to Nomi no Sukune with Nominosukune-Jinjya Shrine in Sumida Ward, Tokyo, being most often visited by sumo wrestlers and officials. Sumo became a part of annual imperial ceremonies, called Sumai no sechie and held around the time of Tanabata (Star Festival) every year. Elite sumo wrestlers are chosen from all over country and wrestle in tournament. During Kamakura Period, Minamoto no Yoritomo became patron of sumo and tournaments came to be held on festival days at numerous shrines. These exhibitions became popular among Shoguns and their powerful commanders. Later, during Edo Period, “Kanjin Zumo” tournaments were held frequently as charity for temples and shrines. This led to remodeling of organization of tournaments, leading to current Grand Sumo Tournaments. From this perspective, sumo can be seen as one of earliest sports to be commercialized and professionalized in Japan. You may have seen sumo wrestlers clapping their hands in prayer during Dohyo-iri (ring-entering ceremony) of Grand Sumo Tournament. They perform this action because Dohyo is considered to be place where Gods dwell.Dohyo-Matsuri Festival is conducted by a tate-gyoji (head referee in sumo). Joining him are saishu (head priest), makuuchi-gyoji (referee for makuuchi division), juryo-gyoji (referee for juryo division) and waki-gyoji (two assistant referees) day before an official tournament begins. This festival is part of Jichinsai (ground-breaking ceremony), which is performed over a newly constructed dohyo. Saishu recites a Shinto prayer and offers gifts to pray for safety and success of the tournament. The well-being of the nation and a huge harvest are also prayed for. At the ceremony, items of good tidings such as salt, seaweed, dried squids, dried chestnuts, rice, torreya-nuts, etc., are buried in the center of the dohyo as offerings to the gods protecting the dohyo.Dohyo-Matsuri Festival is performed at all sumo tournaments held for shrines. These tournaments are held to pray for peace, family prosperity, a rich harvest, and bountiful fishing, just to name a few things. In Japan, “Hitori-zumo,” (wrestle with oneself), is used to mean someone working desperately on something for no one in particular, or even pointlessly. Term originated in Shinto ritual held at Oyamazumi-Jinjya Shrine in Omishima, Ehime Prefecture. This Shinto ritual is performed during both Ondaue-Matsuri (rice planting festival) every spring on May 5 and the Nukibo-Sai (rice harvesting festival) every autumn on September 9, both by lunar calendar. It is performed to pray for a good harvest on a dohyo constructed between building called “Osajiki Den” and special rice field offered to the gods called the “Shinsen Den.” A three-point match is held between an invisible rice spirit and a sumo wrestler. In this contest, rice spirit will always win by 2 victories and 1 defeat. It is quite comical to witness since the man seems to be wrestling by himself. This ceremony is where term “hitori-zumo” originates. Originally, though, it was an important ceremony for praying for a rich harvest.© inside.japan #archaeohistories#
I disagree with this take ser 👇@Wormhole is much more than a bridge. Wormhole is an interoperability platform for developers that offers a whole suite of products that enable devs to build natively multi-chain.This includes:- Messaging: Secure x-chain transfer of data or tokens- Connect: In-app bridging integration of only 3 LOC- Queries: Pull any on-chain data cheap and fast- NTT: Framework for natively multi-chain tokens- Gateway: Connecting Wormhole to IBC/CosmosIt's an ecosystem of industry-leading applications built on Wormhole's battle-tested interoperability infra (e.g. using messaging or NTT or apps that integrate Wormhole Connect for in-app bridging). Some of my favourite ones that are currently building on Wormhole are:- @Curvance - @PikeFinance - @synonymfinance - @CatalystAMM - @infinex_app - @C3protocol@wormhole enables the exchange of arbitrary messages across any connected chain, allowing for powerful cross-chain composability that goes beyond the transfer of value. Today it does this on 30+ chains already and is especially strong in the non-EVM space (Solana, Sui, Aptos). The bad UX you are describing (and that I'm unfortunately familiar with too lol) is how @portalbridge_ worked until not too long ago. Portal is not Wormhole though. It's an application that is built on top of @Wormhole technology (originally first iteration of Wormhole Connect iirc). It's built by @xLabsxyz, not @wormhole_labs (which is building the Wormhole core products). When Portal went live there was no automatic relays and hence the need for manual claims. However, this has changed and for most chains/assets you now have automatic relying in place and hence don't need to manually claim anymore (not even on Portal).Additionally, there is a whole bunch of other bridges (or cross-chain AMMs) that use @wormhole technology including @Allbridge_io, @magpieprotocol and many more. So there is not this one single UX for Wormhole as an infra layer.I agree on the wrapped asset issue and the risks / UX issues that come with that. I highly recommend having a look at @wormhole's NTT framework. Probably many big integrations coming post $W launch I would assume:Finally: Wormhole has often been getting a lot of shit for being "just a multi-sig". But while it is true that VAAs that attest to message validity require a 13/19 threshold signature, I would argue that the Guardian network design is among the most secure verification mechanisms we currently have on the market. This is evidenced by the fact that, together with @axelarnetwork, Wormhole was the only interoperability solution to pass the @UniswapFND bridge assessment last year. But yeah, I do share the view of many critics that the endgame of interoperability is (or should be) fully trust-minimized and permissionless. That's why I love projects like @union_build that build ZK-powered IBC solutions that can be generalized beyond the Cosmos ecosystem, providing the basis for a completely chain-agnostic and permissionless, sovereign interoperability layer. However, @Wormhole is not sleeping on this either. As a messaging solution and a highly versatile developer platform, Wormhole can support various message verification mechanisms and ZK proofs are work in progress. The partnership with @AMD for prover hardware acceleration will be huge here.So yeah, pretty damn bullish on @wormhole and the team just keeps shipping relentlessly. Just wait until people realize that $W might be the eligibility ticket for a bunch of ecosystem airdrops...Think @Curvance. Think @PikeFinance. Think @monad_xyz.Might be the TIA of interoperability iykwim.NFA tho 🫡
